How Bossladies Began
This week has been HUGE for Bossladies: our Kickstarter has come to an end, and it’s time to begin mailing magazines to our backers! Over the past month, we raised a total of $11,662 with the help of 225 people. How amazing is that? Thank you all!
As a token of our thanks, we wanted to share a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff with you: how the project began and where we’re headed from here.
We set out with the intention to open a coworking space in LA. We wanted to create a studio where women who typically work from home could gather with their peers to build their businesses, stage photoshoots, host launch parties or workshops, and meet with their clients.
So we began designing Bossladies Magazine as a Kickstarter prize to raise funds for the studio. But, as we developed the idea, something interesting happened: we received dozens of emails from girls and young women who were inspired by the magazine, who wanted to find ways to get involved, and who couldn’t wait to get their hands on a copy.
We were thrilled. And it wasn’t long before we realized that the magazine wasn’t simply a piece of the studio project, it was a phenomenal and inspiring project in its own right.
(And don't worry. We have not given up on the studio.)
Now that the Kickstarter has ended, we're off to package our little magazines and ship them off to all of you. And we're already in the process of creating our next issue, which will release in November.
But November seemed like an awfully long time to wait to share more with all of you. So we decided to launch the Bossladies Blog where we'll delve into content beyond our signature profiles. Here, we'll share posts on everything from business ethics to bookkeeping to self-care during a busy season. We're currently seeking contributors, so if you have a great post idea, don't be shy about reaching out! (You can reach us at: chelsea@bossladies.us.)
We have a few other projects brewing as well, so stay tuned and stay bossy, ladies.
warmly,
chelsea
